Lady Bird Johnson was born Claudia Alta Taylor in Karnack, Texas on December 22, 1912. Her parents were Thomas Jefferson Taylor and Minnie Pattillo Taylor, and she had two older brothers, Tommy and Tony. Her mother died when she was only five years old, and her Aunt Effie Pattillo moved to Karnack to look after her. George Gould Lincoln (1880-1974) graduated from Yale University in 1902 and worked for the Washington Times from 1903 to 1909. He was an editor and columnist for the Washington Evening Star (which later became the Washington Star-News) from 1909 to 1974.
